The current spending on cloud computing services in India is not so high because of the Cloud Computing is in its nascent stage and hasn’t gone past the awareness phase.
There are not many decision makers who understand the terminology of IaaS, PaaS and SaaS and the differences between Public Cloud, Private Cloud and Hybrid Cloud.
The effort to educate the masses by cloud vendors and Cloud service providers is going on a full-swing with many vendor events, cloud seminars, webinars, news articles being circulated among the businesses and this will help in the upward movement in 2011 and 2012.
Today the most amount usage in India is happening in the private cloud by large enterprises
Small enterprises prefer public cloud as they do not have a proper IT infrastructure set-up within the organization.
SBs are looking at cloud as the viable option where they can back-up their company data, use a shared server and applications like CRM, collaborative and messaging applications to interact with clients, customers and employees at different locations and on the move
Some of the key verticals that vendors are focusing in India currently are Healthcare, manufacturing real-estate, media and communication, ecommerce, IT/ITES and financial firms. IBM, Microsoft and Google can be considered as the brands with better visibility and mindshare in the cloud space in India.
It is incredible to see the use of such a technology and almost every other customer, players are talking about it because the capability is such that with just a web browser and a decent Broadband Internet connection this is available or ready to be used. One of the major drivers for cloud services in India is reduced capital expenditures and it has become a suitable option for users during economic instability that affected the world in 2008 and 2009.
